The vernal equinox heralds the beginning of spring in Japan. Although New Year's Day is on January 1st, in Japan the period before the beginning of spring was a time for renewal and looking to the future. On February 3rd evil spirits are chased out of Japanese houses with a bean-throwing ritual. The spirits of good fortune were then welcomed into the house. This is a tradition that still continues in Japan. Children enjoy throwing beans at their parents, who have taken on the role of the evil spirits. This collection of porcelain aims to capture that atmosphere of fun. Now you too can banish the evil spirits and welcome good fortune into your home. |

| This item is made to order. It will take approximately 30 days to complete your order. The process involves preparing, shaping and firing the clay. After the designs have been painted, the porcelain is fired for a second time, let cool naturally and allowed to stabilize. No mass production methods are used. Each piece is individually created by Japanese craftsmen. Items in the same range may differ slightly in size and shape. There may also be slight differences in the detail of the designs.
